Hello Let me introduce myself and explain a little bit about what I do...
My name is Alejandra better known as Alex!
Over 45 years ago I was born in darkest Peru, just like Paddington! And a few days later my parents had to move to a different country for work. Years later, we came back to Peru as a family and got lost in the beauty of the country, the culture, food and music.
When I was in my 20’s I decided to go back to Peru with my husband Michael. We spent time living with the Machiguenga tribe in the Amazon.
They gave us the knowledge of how to survive in the wild. They taught us the simple way to live life to its fullest, and they gave me acceptance, the feeling of belonging. I felt like part of a family in their tribe.
Having settled in Macclesfield, my new hometown, I decided to create Grow Macclesfield: a volunteer-run community gardening project which helps local people through sustainable gardening.
The group was founded with the intention of growing our own fruit and vegetables organically whilst following our core principles of community, integration and belonging.
We utilise sustainable planting techniques such as Hügelkultur and Permaculture and our philosophy is always to encourage integration rather than segregation.
At Grow Macclesfield we always take the opportunity to share knowledge and planting techniques.
Grow Macclesfield to bring together with other local partners green initiatives across Macclesfield.
We take pride in including everyone as equal and valued parts of a vibrant community.
I look forward to working together with the Grow Macclesfield and always welcome new volunteers to come and join us on our continuing journey"
